On Material
When I encountered glass as a material,
I was drawn to a quality I had never found anywhere else.
That presence and absence can dwell in it at the same time.
It shines, and yet it is fragile.
Under a certain light, the forms I have engraved disappear completely.
Change the angle, and they surely rise to the surface again.
The same surface, the same moment — and yet what can be seen has changed.
What the eye captures is never the whole.
With a diamond point,
I make cuts into the surface that cannot be undone.
A line, once drawn, cannot be erased.
This material holds the same irreversibility as life.
Nothing lasts forever.
That is exactly why this very moment becomes irreplaceable.
For me, glass was the only material that could hold that truth.
